Thank you so much for the wonderful dining experience earlier this week - the food and wine was just amazing and the service was out of this world. Certainly one of the best dining experiences I've had and you beat most of the Michelin starred restaurants hands down. Hope to see you again soon!

Amazing space all tastefully decorated with impeccable taste. The staff couldn't be friendlier and so professional. The food was outstanding, everything is homemade, so fresh and so creative. We couldn't compliment the team enough for their fabulous work and welcoming. Truly a far cry from the mainstream restaurants in London, this place is unique charming fab staff and amazing food. This is what we call heaven!! Will most definitely go back and couldn't recommend it enough. A huge thank you to the team.

Found this restaurant by accident just going for a walk in the area and decided to try it out. Great decision as the food was great, service excellent with a very good wine list. A thoroughly enjoyable dining out experience!.

Another fab find
16 October 2014
A group of 5 of us tried this place on a whim as it just round the corner from the hotel we were staying at for work. And what a find it was! We were late getting out, and although the kitchen was closing at 9pm and we only had 5 minutes, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The pub itself is very nice, cool enough to take someone you worry about impressing! The beer was really well kept and a good range of choices, they also knocked up a very good cocktail for one of our group!
Nice menu with plenty of choice - Pie & Mash is their weapon of choice, apparently folk come from far and wide for it! 2 of our group had it and suitably impressed... one of us had the haddock & chips and it really did look like a whale, remaining 2 had the custom made burger... which was one of the best burgers I've had for a while.
The owner came and sat with us for a while, very pleasant and keen to hear about our experience, which is always refreshing when its genuine... definitely recommend, I would definitely bring the missus - well done The Dispensary :)

Best food in the East End

For me this gastro pub is all about the food... I've eaten here countless times - it took me a good 6 months to try something other than the beef burger it's that good! So many of the main courses are delicious, I would absolutely recommend The Dispensary.
Oktoberfest is a must-go event. I've attending the past 3 years and it's a great night with a really fun atmosphere. I can't fault this place, it really is worth all five stars!!
Good beer. Great food.

I found the place by accident when research the haunts of Jack the Ripper suspects. This one is a former hospital founded by Queen Victoria's personal surgeon. The building retains many period features, but has been brought up to date with a liberal splash of Farrow & Ball and trendy furnishings.
Although this is a food chef establishment with the ex personal chef to scion of the Rothschild banking dynasty, the fact that it is CAMRA's reigning Eastend pub, let's you know it has a decent selection of craft beers.
Prices are quite modest for City borders. My starter of squid and chorizo was excellent. With the later fried to perfection - not in the least chewy. Portions are, perhaps, too generous and the excellent ground beef burger almost beat me. The bun was surplus to requirements.
Absolutely not to be missed!

I cannot write enough positive things about The Dispensary. I stopped in here my first night in London on the way home from a very late night at the office, I walked in and was told that the kitchen had already closed for the evening; however, the owner went so out of his way seeing I was a young woman alone and went back into the kitchen to make me something to eat. I do not exaggerate when I say this was the best gnocchi I have ever eaten, far exceeding anything I've had in New York. This is a fantastic family establishment with the owner as the chef (former personal chef - again, amazing!) and his wife running the main bar area. The bartender (also handles marketing) was great as well. The inside is super chic and it is just an incredibly comfortable environment. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic meal or a relaxing cocktail. This is going to be my absolute go-to during my stay in London; job well done!

Annie is a delight

I have never walked into a pub and felt so comfortable and welcomed. Annie the hostess and her chef husband David have a wonderful ambience happening with a warm welcome. Well done to them! Aussies make your way here.
Brilliant event venue – excellent food, drink, and service
Reviewed 23 June 2014
The Dispensary hosted my sister's wedding reception on Saturday: it was brilliant. The staff were friendly; very welcoming and helpful and went out of their way to help us make event a complete success. There were buckets of compliments from happy guests regarding the amazing food provided and the excellent range drinks available at the cash bar. The atmosphere, the décor, the attention to detail were fantastic. For those who had to travel, the central location made it a breeze. Particular thanks are due to the owners, Annie & David, who effortlessly made us feel at home: good people running a great venue. I really can't recommend it highly enough.

Tried the Dispensary on a recommendation from a colleague at work. Nice interior and the food was great! Enjoyed the service who were polite and efficient. Great beers on offer too. Not your usual London pub.

Always a winner - great food, drink and service
Reviewed 28 April 2014
Working in the City, I have been a regular at The Dispensary ever since David & Annie took it on 8 or so years ago.
I have recently started using it as my location of choice for family meals too. With a discerning wife, son and daughter along with partners we have spent several delightful evenings. The great thing is the range and quality of the food. The last visit some of us had the most delightful halibut, whilst the hungry young chaps had fully loaded burgers. My son commented that it was the best burger he had ever eaten.
Add to great food, some very good wines and great 'ale' as I am assured the younger generation are now calling it...
For me The Dispensary is 'Always a winner'.
Good service and good food

I ate here today with colleagues. It was great - good food locally sourced and cooked well, matched by attentive but not intrusive service. Good range on offer on the menu. We enjoyed the surroundings and the decoration of the interior. Happy to recommend.
Excellent time had by all

Recently organised my best friends retirement-do in here for about 30 people. The buffet food laid on was excellent and I don't believe there was a scrap left - the 'favourite meal' from a past menu at the Dispensary that I had requested for the retiree was perfect and delivered exactly on the requested time, and the beer quality top notch.
Added to this the usual friendly service we almost take for granted at this venue, my friend couldn't have had a better send off - thanks to Annie, David, Charly, Linda and everybody else who was on shift that night.

I always love to return in The Dispensary because there is no disappointment there. The delicious flavours show using of high quality ingredients and the presence of competent staff. I just recommend the different pie every day with mash, the cheesecake if it's on the menu and the Snakebite by Charly.

Great private party
Reviewed 19 May 2013
We hired the pub on a Saturday night for some drinks to celebrate our engagement. We had about 50 guests. It was a great night. Service was excellent. Lovely relaxed vibe. Great food - we had hotdogs, mini smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels and nachos and this went down really well with the guests. Would thoroughly recommend the dispensary for a private party or just a drink and/or some good food on a weekday. Annie and David who own the place were v helpful and made it a great night for us.

Although a little out of the way, this pub is always worth the walk. The chef knows how to cook classic British dishes that are so good, I have seen people order a second main course to share rather than dessert. What more can one say?
Surprisingly good pub and food in a bit of an under served area
Reviewed 6 October 2012
Just off the belching Aldgate Giratory, this oasis is a gem. A lovely pub for a few beers. A good wine list too. But the food is the surprise. Great, fresh, well cooked and very good value. Not the usual bog standard pub food either - the steak is great, the burger probably one of the best you'll have. It can get loud, but has a balcony that is quieter for food and a smaller room at the back is more intimate and one private room which is great for supper for 6. Run by a lovely couple, they deserve your trade - you won't be disappointed.

Mehr als gute Pub Kuche (More than good pub kitchen)
Reviewed 18 July 2012
More than a good pub kitchen. Outwardly very impressive and presentable. This continues inside. Below is a more informal great room with nice seating islands, long bar and a small room above with more formal rooms. Very friendly welcome. A very large selection of unusual beer. Too bad that I could not try all. Small menu, but very appealing offer. The quality of the food was exceptionally good at reasonable prices.
